3.30.2014

Week of 3.31 to 4.5

Savanna Dalton leads a pack during the invitational heat of the 3200m at the Longmont Invitational on Saturday. Savanna set a new school record in the event with a time of 11:41.14 (3/29/14)

We'll get to this week's information shortly, but first I want to highlight some performances from this past week's varsity meet at the Longmont Invitational. It was our best weather day of the season, and it paid off with many great performances by our athletes. As a team the boys finished 7th and the girls one notch better in 6th. I could list a bunch of athletes and their PRs, but the PRs were too many to count. Other notable performances are expanded upon below.
Top 5 finishes
  • 5th
    • Girls 4x200m: Mackin, Loyola, Taylor, Davis
    • Maya Brown, Shot put
  • 4th
    • Parker Strahler, 110m hurdles
    • Maya Brown, discus SCHOOL RECORD!
    • Mackenzie Pettit, HJ
    • Chris Linnin, HJ
  • 3rd
    • Mackenzie Pettit 100m hurdles
    • Ryan Hardin, Shot put
      • This was only Ryan's second varsity meet, and he's been excellent. He scored a second place in last week's Sabercat Invitational with a throw of 45'3". This week's throw of 43'9" got him a 3rd place. Might he be able to tackle the school record of 48'2" by the end of the season?
  • 2nd
    • Christina Stathakis, PV SCHOOL RECORD!
    • Mackenzie Pettit, TJ
  • 1st
    • Girls Sprint Medley Relay: Mackin, Gomez, Stathakis, Davis
    • Christian Mueller, PV
    • Matt Clark, HJ
      • This was Matt's first varsity meet, and he showed up big time in the high jump with a 1st place and a great 1st effort at 6'1". He also notched a respectable 18'11" in the long jump
School records on notice: three athletes got very close to school records
  • Kelsey Dalton, 800m, 2:27.09 (.07 seconds of the record set by Morgan Neher in 2012)
  • Mackenzie Pettit, TJ, 34-8.25 (3/4 inch off her own record from last year)
  • Christian Mueller, PV, 13-10 (only three inches off the record set by Will Bakemeyer in 2012)
New School records: These athletes will be receiving dog tags for their efforts, though I suspect I'll most likely be making more of them for the same athletes as the season goes on.
  • Maya Brown, discus, 113-6
  • Savana Dalton, 3200m, 11:41.14
  • Christina Stathakis, Pole vault, 11-4

Entire results for the meet can be found here, and results just for CV athletes here.

Saturday: Varsity at Sports Authority Stadium in Parker for the Legend Titan Track Clash
   --Bus leaves at 7:15am
--Athletes that drive must check in with Coach Munoz by 7:45am
   --No return bus

I'll post an event schedule when Legend High School finalize one. So you can plan, the first race is at 8:45am, and the field events start at 9. This meet does have a strange order of events that we will talk about this week.

Next week

We have a unique schedule next week that we haven't dealt with yet. We have a Varsity meet on Friday night and not on Saturday. We also have a JV meet that day. Athletes attending that Varsity meet must take the bus to Denver South's All City Stadium and take it back. Work schedules, class schedules, and any other activities must be 2nd priority to compete at this meet.

That's all for now. Entries for this week will be posted later in the week on this blog.
