TJ Twilight info

Hopefully this post will answer any and all questions you have on the meet tomorrow.

You are released from class tomorrow at 1:25.
The bus will leave at 1:45.
All competing athletes will take the bus to and from the meet.
No practice for JV athletes.

The TJ Twilight is a...unique...meet. It is different than any other meet that we go to during the year. We see schools we typically don't see, and they have all levels of talent. We get to run under the lights, which we only do a couple times every season. The meet has a wild-west, free-for-all feel to it, but that gives is a lot of character. The stadium is great, and more than a few athletes have said the track is fun to run on and feels "short". Boys events go first, and then girls, which takes a little while to get used to. Heats are also ran fast to slow (like last week). Infield rules are not strictly enforced, or at least not consistently which I know you athletes (and some of us coaches) will like. There is no check in tent for track events--just report to the clerk to the starting line (the clerk is also the guy that is hosting the meet, so forgive him if he seems frazzled). Field event officials at TJ are an interesting lot, and vary greatly in their ability and interest in running the events. Any problems with field event officials are usually outweighed by the excellent competition we see at the field events. Coach Johnston has said that it is almost guaranteed that we will not finish one of the throws, and I cannot disagree with him. Track and field events at TJ are always running late, which makes the schedule below a mere suggestion. In fact the meet director has already said that the last race will probably not go until around 9:35 (that means you guys will be getting home pretty late).
So, in summary, tomorrow's meet will most definitely not be the best run meet you have ever been to, but it may be the most fun you have this season. The key is to stay relaxed and not let the environment distract you from what you are trying to do: get your best mark of the season.

The Stadium

Parents this is mostly for you, because athletes will be on the bus to and from the stadium, but here are directions.
All City Stadium (it is visible on the North side of I-25 and is part of Denver South HS, and tangent to Washington Park.
Directions can be found here

A different note: fundraising

Remember your fundraising. I still have packets for a few athletes that were missing on Wednesday, you know who you are. Come see me and I'll get them to you.
Packets are due on Tuesday. I typically don't like to take these early, but I was so thrilled that one of our seniors had already taken care of it that I accepted it. Nice job Kylie!
The great thing that come from this fundraising...
  • Funds go to future events of CV track and field
  • You get fantasy points (5 points when you hit $50, 2 more points for every $10 after that)
  • Carina Esslinger. Do I have to say more??? Let's help her and the family out!

Thanks you guys,

Coach Nack
